pieces of me

The ordinary glow of common dust in ancient sunlight
stops me short
this morning

The flecks that have fallen
from the daily
walking scratching cutting caressing
shaking still shouting silence

Caught for a moment
in light that has been
falling for
ever

And in the seeing
I begin the embrace
the giving up

of all the days
the fears
the utter unknown
the that which is coming
and the what that has gone before
the Holy Ghost fire
and the blackened embers

all of it
shed across surface and air and time
pieces of me
settling
drifting
floating

awash in the morning air
hung and revolving through stillness and quiet knowing

the Ancient of Days
mixing with the leftovers of my own days
falling like manna
across and over and in
my
today

Glory

  2. i swear this comment box was not here when i checked earlier. but then again, novice bloggers like me still need some directions with these things, right? :)

i think you've captured what is perhaps mostly obscured by all the candy fanfare and purple rejoice banners of Easter in this line: "the Ancient of Days

mixing with the leftovers of my own days
    falling like manna
    across and over and in
    my
    today"
that it is the leftovers that we offer that he breathes in, through, over - yes, all of this. not because of our ability to sing a "glory, hallelujah" or feel the birdsongs swell as we read the old, old story, but because he specializes in emerging *anyway*. through our rocks, past our dirt, mixing with our leftovers. in this we find ourselves full and the beauty of Easter lives in every today.
thank you. your words, always, such depth.

  3. You and your pen are missed when you push pause and breathe deep for long periods of silence.
Your return is a moment of celebration, for we need your words out here. We need to see and touch and smell and hold this life a little bit through your senses. They pick up and record in ways I cannot. Thank you for this, as always I am reading it multiple times and it just delights me to no end. There is something new waiting to be discovered upon each visit to the place of your poetic heart.

  6. Well, thank you, Lord. A lovely word from dear Holly once again. Hope you are feeling well, that life is tolerable (or maybe even better than that?), that poems will continue to bubble up. Blessed Eastertide to you, friend.

  8. Oh my. This is glory here. I feel all awash in your words, Holly, and the imagery here that pulls us across time and knits us together with the timeless God. I'd like to hang here awhile, in this moment.
