In this space, today--
No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation.
Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
I see you there in the corner. Book, or sketch paper, or dragon figure in hand. Busying yourself with stories or drawings or make believe.
You're there
and
I'm here.
Where I am, well, it is busy and scattered and important. I would prefer not to be interrupted, thank you. A few or ten or 60 minutes more and I'll be finished. Set aside. Complete.
So you wait.
I catch glimpses of you from the leaky sides of my eyes but I plow forward anyway. Just a few things more. Then I'll be done. And ready for you.
But then, in a moment, when I am distracted from my distractions by a Spirit wind,
I see you.
Sitting there.
In the corner.
And our eyes lock and a power beyond us seals my gaze.
And your eyes, the ones moist with anticipation and impatience and desire, that ooze love unending
they say it so simply.
Join me.
Please.
Holly, oh my girl. I want to go get my children out of the high school and hug them after your poetic offering here. Thank you for your beautiful heart stirring words, friend. Yes, I know. Yes, I know. You mark that feeling so very well, with beauty. Fragile. I am thankful for the prompting of the Spirit too, to pull me back and in and present. Beautiful, gentle wake up.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth,
DeleteMay we always be waking up. Thank you for joining me here.
Okay, so you totally rocked this prompt today. I don't know a mom who wouldn't get this on a gut level. At least, I know it got me. Job well done!
ReplyDeleteStacie,
DeleteThank you so much for your words here. It's so comforting to know that my feelings are felt in a vacuum. I'm so glad that you stopped by.
Such beautiful, elegant, and pure words. It's so exciting to watch you grow into your gift, trust it, and give it wings. So glad to know you, dear.
ReplyDeleteOh Eyvonne,
DeleteYour words mean the world to me! And you must know, so much of what has been pushing me forward as of late has been the knowledge that amazing people like you are standing there beside me, cheering me on. I am SO thankful to have "met" you and I rejoice in your presence here. You are doing amazing things yourself and I am so honored to be welcomed into that space.
Goose-bumps, and a kindred mama-heart here. So many distractions and the most important things, waiting for us to join. Ugh. Thank you for articulating my heart!
ReplyDeleteTresta,
DeleteI love knowing that there are kindred mamas out there, reading and identifying with what I share here. It helps make the world a little smaller and a little less overwhelming. Let's keep speaking into each other's lives. Grace to you.
Love this Holly. Great words. Thanks for sharing them:) Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteCourtney,
DeleteSo glad that you visited here and found something that spoke to you.
I wish you a More than 5 Minute Happy Friday. Thank you for those lovely words and sentiments.
ReplyDeleteMore than 5 Minutes of happiness to you, too, cousin!
DeleteHolly, I just found your blog and it surprised me, to say the least. I've been using A Lifetime Of Days since the 1980s, and even self published a book or prose with that title. I've just touched on your writings and look forward to indulging further.
ReplyDeleteI'm rather new to all this blogging stuff and created a blog last night using A Lifetime Of Days as my blog title. Eek!
I'd like to talk with you. My email is waltertupelo@gmail.com
Take Care!
Walter,
DeleteHow crazy!!!! Did you, too, pull "A Lifetime of Days" from Annie Dillard or is it your own doing? I would love to know more about your book because I have been ruminating on a book of my own, titled, of course, A Lifetime of Days....hmmmm. I'm glad you found me and I would love to know what you think. And I will have to explore your new blog and all that you are offering to the world. Again, thank you so much for visiting.
What a fantastic post! You had me from the very first line...
ReplyDelete"I see you there in the corner."
Wonderful.
Rozanne,
DeleteSo great to have you in this space today. Thank you for reading and for understanding...
I hope you didn't construe my comment as a negative one. Quite the opposite. I've enjoyed reading your writings very much, and just thought it amazing that someone else would use lifetime of days as their title.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous! :-)
Walter,
DeleteNo worries, sir. It IS pretty amazing that we both latched onto the same title.
Great minds think alike? (I'm giving myself way too much credit there!)
I hope you continue to visit.
What amazingly beautiful words.
ReplyDeleteThey capture my days....after a similar interaction today, my son said "mama i'm going to kindergarten next week."
May I listen when his "eyes say it so simply. join me"
Thank you!
Stopping over for the first time from Five Minute Friday.
Melanie,
DeleteYay for Five Minute Friday and all of the wonderful folks who join in. So glad you stopped by.
And as far as your son goes...today it's kindergarten and then it's middle school and then... let us not loose touch with what is right before us right now.
Grace.
Such beautiful words. Makes me think of the song "You Never Give Up on Me" by Josh Bates. I have the same experience of Him waiting so patiently. And while I love and am always amazed at how this online platform brings us all together, I know that sometimes you have to "disconnect" so that you can "reconnect". Thank you for sharing these touching words.
